This week’s Friday Flashback takes us back to 2003 – newcomer’s Etherfox release a 12″ of this record on a Ministry of Sound subsidiary Hussle Recordings. The Whirled You Live and their follow-up record Something Different To Say were both included in numerous compilations by Ministry of Sound and Ked Kandi.

In 2009 The Shapeshifters featured Something different to say on their first Nocturnal Grooves compilation. You haven’t heard the last disco-house smash from Justin Shave & Antigone Foster, trust me.

10 Disco-Influenced House Tunes Every DJ Should Have In Their Record Bag

| March 13th, 2010 | No Comments »

If you’ve been to any Vital events lately I’m sure it would come as no surprise to you that I’ve developed a serious affinity for everything funky and disco. I’ve always found it challenging, given that I love melodic progressive house, to find a sweet spot between music I like to produce and music I can rock a crowd with when I’m live in a club or lounge.

Over the past while I’ve found that not only do people LOVE disco, but I don’t feel like a total shill or sellout while playing it. In fact, it makes me all happy and giddy inside (that may be the alcohol). This isn’t entirely surprising though – disco gave birth to house music after all. Let’s also not forget that people love classics, and a modern remake of a discoey track from the yesteryear is a surefire recipe for dance floor success.

Here are some of the tracks that have been moving & shaking while I’ve been out record slinging; each is fundamentally rooted in disco or is a remake of an old classic:

10. Another Chance – I Can’t Wait (Original Mix)
09. Mange Le Funk – I Still Want You (Original & Bellatrax Remixes)
08. Malente – I Like It (Riva Starr Snatch! Remix)
07. Bionik Phunk – In My Head (ATFC’s Timmy’s In My Head Mix)
06. JCA, Solaphinics – Total Love (Raul Rincon Rootz Remix)
05. Sandy Rivera & Andy Daniell – Whatever (ATFC Remix)
04. Seamus Haji & Romain Curtis – I’ve Been Looking ft. Awa (Seamus Haji Vocal Mix)
03. James Junior – Come Home With Me (Jonny Montana & Craig Stewart & Conan Liquid Remixes)
02. Sia Lauren Flax ft. Sia – You’ve changed (MK D-troit Mix)
01. Solu Music feat. KimBlee – Fade (Avicii Remix)
